Tomorrow, the Browns have confirmed they will hire Rob Chudzinsky as their new head coach.
Chudzinsky was the Browns offensive coordinator from 2007-2008, worked as the tight ends coach under Butch Davis in 2004, and has had stints as an offensive assistant with the Chargers and as offensive coordinator at the University of Miami and the Carolina Panthers.
Chuds will likely bring Norv Turner, his former boss, along as offensive coordinator.
The defense will likely shift to a 3-4 alignment and a more aggressive, attacking style.
Instant reaction: it's not Whisenhunt, I like that part.
I love the Norv Turner move, as he's been one of the better offensive coordinators in the league over his tenure (just not a good head coach).
I love Chuds as a coach. He got a great season out of Derek Freaking Anderson.
Derek Freaking Anderson.
While I'm not completely sold on the move, especially if the 3-4 move becomes reality, this is better than some of the discussed scenarios, and its ability to work out comes down to two things:
- The personnel department hire(s)
- The defensive coordinator hire
Those two things are mission critical here, and we can't judge this move until those are done. I will reserve the right to hate this later, but for now, my blood pressure has yet to spike.
