  • Harbaugh officially screwing up Niners QB situation

Jim Harbaugh has a good thing going: he's got two quarterbacks who are winning him games.

    He's screwing it up now.

While waiting until the last possible minute last week gained him an advantage on gameday, he will not repeat the stunt this week. For those who assumed Colin Kaepernick was the guy for the remainder of the way...

"Alex Smith is our starting quarterback..."

    Say again, Coach?

Except he continued in a rambling manner illustrating that he was still undecided on his quarterback for next week's matchup against the Rams.

His options: go with his starter, or go with the guy who it is not fair to describe as a backup quarterback (paraphrasing there).

    I thought I was confused before...apparently not...

I'm not naive enough to argue guys shouldn't lose their jobs to injury in today's NFL. That courtesy should not be in play in 2012. However, make a decision.

And stick to it, Coach Harbaugh. Otherwise, you may screw up your shot at a Super Bowl by screwing with your quarterbacks' heads.

Smith shouldn't lose his starting job just because he got hurt and CK played well in his absence. Isn't a backup QB supposed to play well, why else would you have him on your roster?

That being said, I think Jim Harbaugh is tip-toeing around Smith, as he's trying to find the most delicate way possible to tell him that Kaepernick will soon be the team's signal caller.

I agree with that, but the time for it is during the offseason, not now. Smith's your guy, roll with him, or don't, stop tiptoeing around it.

Harbaugh needs to do no such thing if he feels that his new guy gives them a better chance at winning. Anyone heard of Tom Brady? I figure so. BRady came in as a rookie practically in his 2nd yr without any experience and took over the Patriots QB job over a guy in Bledsoe who had been one of the best passers in the league for years. Well Brady went on to win the SB that year and ended up winning 2 more and going to 2 more as well. Smith has not continued to progress from last season. He still had work to do, and if Kaepernick presents an option that is a better threat for offensive scoring then he needs to roll with who he has. He just might have him a QB for the future.

I pretty much agree with that thinking Tex. I didn't necessarily think he should go away from Smith after the injury, but if you're going to do it, freaking do it. Don't mess around with it like this, make the call, move on.
