This is a new article that I am starting where I will analize things taking place in the NFL and I will give you my opinions are everything and anything whether you like it or not. Opening Statement
Lets start with the NFL draft. It was an exciting weekend with some interesting twists and turns and some questionable picks. Some teams did very well and some did just the opposite. Here are my picks for best and worst drafts:
Best Drafts 1. Minnesota Vikings- All I can say about this team's draft is wow. With the additions of Troy Williamson and Erasmus James in the first round the Vikings' draft already was looking great but they didn't stop there. They then took OT Marcus Johnson and CB Dustin Fox, two talented players. After having such a great draft, Vikings' fans won't feel so bad about losing Randy Moss in the offseason.
2. Arizona Cardinals- They added a great cornerback in Antrel Rolle and an explosive running back in J.J. Arrington. They filled there needs and I think they did an outstanding job. I think they will be a good team this year and might even make a run for the playoffs if all the young players on their team can perform. 3. Dallas Cowboys- The Cowboys first two picks were both Defensive Ends. The Cowboys needed to strenghthen their defense and the Cowboys did just that last weekend by getting Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears. These two DE's with Marcus in their names should help the Cowboys' defense improve.
Worst Drafts 1. Denver Broncos- Their first three picks were CB's that I have never even heard of and then they used a 3rd round pick on Maurice Clarett. I think that the Denver secondary was pretty good with Champ Bailey and John Lynch returning from last season so I have no idea why they would pick 3 CB's. Clarett is very risky and might have been on the board in the 5th round if they hadn't taken him.
2. New England Patriots- Even though Bill Belichick probably knows what he is doing with all of these picks, I have never heard of one player they drafted. They also took Matt Leinart's backup. I don't understand that pick and I don't think they did a great job this year. But hey, who needs to have a good draft when you have one 3 of 4 of the last Super Bowls.
3. Seattle Seahawks- I don't know any of the players they drafted and I think they had needs to fill and those needs were not filled. The Seahawks weren't as bad as the Pats or Broncos but they didn't do great.
Bucs Draft Analysis
I like what the Bucs did with their first two picks of Cadillac Williams and Barrett Ruud. We needed a great RB that could carry the load on offense and I think Caddy will be able to do that for us. Many people aren't sure how much longer Derrick Brooks will play so drafting LB Barrett Ruud in the second round was a nice move by the Bucs. Larry Brackins is an interesting pick since he comes from a community college but from what I hear he has potential. I have heard that he has great hands and his height will help him develop as well. Alex Smith, the TE from Stanford, was also a great pick and I think he will be a good backup as long as Anthony Becht is here then he will be able to start once Becht's time in Tampa is done. Smith is a nice player who has great hands and good blocking skills. I can't wait until preseason so I can see all of these guys take the field and show their skills.
Closing Statement
Thanks for reading this first edition of Buccaneer Blitz and I also want everyone to know that in the future it will be more about the Bucs but since the draft was just last weekend I wanted to give my analysis on that. Well that's about all I've got say so until next time, peace.
