Week 7's NFL rankings are complete and ready for your enjoyment.  Can the Patriots hold on to the #1 spot or is Indy's big win over a tough division rival enough to propel them back to the top?  Find out in this week's edition of the PSH Power Rankings.

NFL
RANKINGS
WEEK 7

by YoHo, Mallard, r5d3, and jjflr

Each week, some of the experts at PSH will bring you a compilation of their rankings of the 32 NFL teams. These geniuses of the pigskin will bring varying methodologies to derive completely unarguable conclusions (yeah, right).

Some of the experts will use their skills of observation to compile an opinion-based ranking of the teams ........... Some will use mathematical formulas to determine who is best .......... while others will throw darts at a dartboard (*cough* mallard *cough*). We then 'average' the rankings from the experts to come up with our group ranking.

So, sit back ………. Relax ……….. grab a cold one ……….. and prepare to be amazed at the knowledge that exists here at PSH ………… (I’m not building us up too much am I? Yep, I think so ……….. I’m just setting up the readers for a letdown)

Week 7 Notes:

R5d3 will be using a mathematical formula each week for his rankings.

jjflr is using his statistical formula, which include factors such as wins and losses, margin of victory, strength of opponent, home vs. road results, and offensive and defensive rankings. Early season results don’t factor as strongly as the season goes along.

YoHo and Mallard’s weekly rankings will be opinion-based each and every week.

Each expert’s individual rank is in parentheses underneath the team.

Expert comments (if given) are underneath each team.

#1 (tie) New England Patriots (7-0)

r5d3 (2) I think a win at division rival Jacksonville was more impressive than a win at non-rival Dallas.:
YoHo (1): I'm sorry. They're the best team I've ever seen. Nothing the Colts can do will drop them until November 14th
Mallard (1): The Patriots are in a whole different class than most of the teams they are playing
jjflr (2): The Pats and the Colts keep switching between 1st and 2nd in my formula

#1 (tie) Indianapolis Colts (6-0)

[color="Blue"]r5d3 (1): Surprised that Indy is at #1? Maybe. Surprised there is a huge gap (in the formula) between them and the Pats? Definitely. [COLOR]
YoHo (2): I was really disappointed that the starting QB missed their big monday night test. Either way, the offense killed a stout defense.
Mallard (2): Continues to benefit from timely injuries to their opponent's best skill players
jjflr (1): Both formulas show the Colts as #1 …. Coincidence?

#3 Dallas Cowboys (6-1)

r5d3 (5): Dallas has gone from best NFC team, to possibly the 3rd best NFC East team.
YoHo (3) No reason to drop them yet
Mallard (3): They continue to win all their winnable games
jjflr (3): They jump back ahead of the Steelers

#4 Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)

r5d3 (3): Statistically, they are very close to Patriots. Loss in Denver probably more of a fluke than anything
YoHo (9): It's almost like they forgot to play until the 4th quarter out in Denver. And then it was JUST too little, too late
Mallard (4) I had written off the Arizona game as a fluke, now I'm not so sure. Their line has problems. In spite of John Maddens words of wisdom I'm leaving them as the third AFC team.
jjflr (4): Only fall 1 spot with the loss in Denver

#5 New York Giants (5-2)

r5d3 (4): Big dropoff after top three, but Giants deservedly have climbed this high in the rankings
YoHo (5) A nice little hot streak once the defense got into a groove
Mallard (7): G-men have looked very good, but they have a history of late season collapse after a good start
jjflr (7): Their pass rush is phenomenal

#6 Green Bay Packers (5-1)

r5d3 (14): For a one loss team, they rank out surprisingly low.
YoHo (4). If I see another power rankings with the Giants ahead of the Packers despite the Packers having a better record and being the last team to beat the Giants (31-10, by the way), I'm going to flip.
Mallard (5): Green Bay has not looked dominant in its, but they have a good record against what appears to be a tough schedule. Their 3 wins against the NFC East and victory against San Diego give them a huge advantage in their division.
jjflr (5): See YoHo’s comment above ……… hahaha ……. The PSH rankings have the Giants ahead of the Packers

#7 Tennessee Titans (4-2)

r5d3 (10) The Collins pickup was huge for this team, but they may want to score some touchdowns next game:
YoHo (7) Anyone else notice that the Titans seem just as good without Vince Young?
Mallard (9) Great defense, if they are going to run as much as they do they need to do it better though

jjflr (7): I don’t like when teams play ‘soft’ after building a lead

#8 San Diego Chargers (3-3)

r5d3 (7): Just three weeks ago, they were battling to stay out of last, should win division handily
YoHo (6) If they end up 5-3 at the halfway point, it seems the early worried may be much ado about nothing
Mallard (6) The AFC West is heating up, it looks like there will be some winning teams out there after all
jjflr (14): Will the moving of the practice facility and possible movement of their game be a distraction?

#9 Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)

r5d3 (9): The Jags, as well as the Titans and Texans, have drastically improved teams, and still pale hugely when compared to Colts
YoHo (8) Losing their QB hurts, but they should still take care of business in the running game without him for a couple weeks.
Mallard (11): Losing Garrard hurt. They will struggle on offense without him

jjflr (8):It would be nice to have Leftwich right about now

#10 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3)

r5d3 (8): They’re good at everything, great at nothing
YoHo (13) They need to convert on the opportunities they get. This team might be heading in the right direction, but it means nothing until they learn how to close out those types of games.
Mallard (8): They should have beaten the Lions, that game may cost them
jjflr (10):They outplayed the Lions but couldn’t get it done

#11 Washington Redskins (4-2)

r5d3 (11): Team took quite a hit from loss to Packers, but they seem to be for real

YoHo (10): That offensive line is really dragging down the whole offense... and they're going to lose this week, too
Mallard (10): Does not look like the team that is going to knock the Pats off. Maybe their defense can make the Pats offense look like they aren't playing against air though.
jjflr (9): The Cardinals outplayed them on Sunday. That is a concern

#12 Seattle Seahawks (4-3)

r5d3 (6): Beating up on weak division, but they’re probably a bit overrated
YoHo (14) This will be the worst division winner in recent memory

Mallard (12): Mediocre, but head and shoulders above the rest of their division
jjflr (16): They lost to the Saints …. embarassing

#13 Kansas City Chiefs (4-3)

r5d3 (21): Starting to win, should be a great three way battle for 2nd in division
YoHo (11) Larry Johnson seems to have found something of a groove
Mallard (13): Kansas City gets in on the action and is the fourth AFC West team to take the lead in the division
jjflr (15): My guess is that this team can’t play much better than they are right now

#14 Detroit Lions (4-2)

r5d3 (20): Found a way to win, despite being outplayed. No longer a minor league team, a win in Detroit will be tough to come by
YoHo (12) I admit it; I really thought they would lose last week. But I still think they'll lose two of their next three
Mallard (18): 10 wins is looking more likely than 5,000 passing yards on the John Kitna guarantee front
jjflr (11): Becoming an extremely tough team to beat at home

#15 Denver Broncos (3-3)

r5d3 (13): Huge win over Pittsburgh. Was that a confidence booster, or will they revert back to mediocrity?
YoHo (16) Kudos to them for the bounce back win against the Steelers. However, they still have more questions than answers
Mallard (14): Shannahan gets them turned around during the bye. Their defense still stinks though.
jjflr (23): The Broncos moved up 5 spots in my formula during their bye week and then DROPPED 1 spot after beating the Steelers. Is my formula now ‘predicting’ future success or failure?

#16 Carolina Panthers (4-2)

r5d3 (18): Wow, quite a rise for the Panthers. Maybe Vinny is the best option for this team
YoHo (20) We all saw that they are just a hair better than the Cardinals. Their record is a house of cards ready to collapse
Mallard (17): I continue to be amazed that Testaverde off the couch was better than Carr with an entire preseason
jjflr (12): Wow, I wish my formula didn’t have them ranked so high

#17 Cleveland Browns (3-3)

r5d3 (22): They should probably be switching positions with Bengals, but some stats are dragging them down.
YoHo (18) I wonder what will happen to Brady Quinn when Derek Anderson keeps playing well?

Mallard (15): Climbing the ladder in the AFC North, or did Cincy and Baltimore just fall off the roof?
jjflr (15): Hopefully they will live up to expectations against the Rams

#18 Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)

r5d3 (12): On paper, this team still looks decent, but the season looks almost over for them.
YoHo (22) Wherefor art thou, McVP?
Mallard (16): The offense has officially waited too long to come alive
jjflr (21): Right where they should be in my rankings

#19 Baltimore Ravens (4-3)

r5d3 (15): Only ranked this high thanks to defense that still gets some points.
YoHo (19) I see five more definite losses on their schedule. This will not be a better than .500 team
Mallard (22): Baltimore is getting ready to have its ass handed to it as their schedule gets tougher
jjflr (18): We all know what all of the problems are for this team

#20 Houston Texans (3-4)

r5d3 (19): If they can ever get healthy enough, they can still make noise. For now, they are continuing their steady decline
YoHo (17) QB Controversy?? Naaaahh
Mallard (20): It looks like injuries hit them too hard to make a serious push and they will have to settle for a moral victory this year instead of a playoff spot
jjflr (19): More injuries? This season started out with so much promise

#21 Minnesota Vikings (2-4)

r5d3 (17): A one man show on offense, and a decent defense, but this team will not sniff the playoffs
YoHo (23) I wonder what this team would be this year with even Chad Pennington.
Mallard (19): They are so close, and yet so far from being good
jjflr (20):They played about the way I expected against the Cowboys

#22 Arizona Cardinals (3-4)

r5d3 (25) Surprisingly low rank for the Cards this week:
YoHo (21) That QB situation not working out too well for them, huh?
Mallard (23) Whisenhunt can't not platoon his QB's.....he's gone mad...MAD I tell you
jjflr (17): They played much better than I thought they would

#23 Chicago Bears (3-4)

r5d3 (30): Win over Philly has taken them out of the cellar, but not much separates the last three

YoHo (15) Second half defense, late game magic and Devin Hester. Good enough for the middle of the pack

Mallard (21): Griese is the man for this offense this season.
jjflr (22): They pulled off the shocker of the week in my opinion

#24 Cincinnati Bengals (2-4)

r5d3 (16) Probably the most overrated team of this formula. Their offense is not nearly enough to make up for the defense:
YoHo (27) Someone fire this coach and pull it together for this talented team
Mallard (24): 8-8 would have been a dissapointment at the beginning of the year, now it would be a pleasant surprise

jjflr (24): They don’t get any credit for beating the Jets

#25 New Orleans Saints (2-4)

r5d3 (24): Starting to play better, could be too little, too late
YoHo (28) Pulled out the second win of the year... but maybe only because the opposing QB got injured
Mallard (25): They are better than the worst teams
jjflr (25): The problems have not gone away with this team yet

#26 Oakland Raiders (2-4)

r5d3 (28): They are very capable of winning any game, they’re just not winning many of them
YoHo (24) If they can get Lamont Jordan back on track, they could still have a respectable showing for the season

Mallard (26) Does anyone remember the last time they won a division game?
jjflr (27): I said 2 weeks ago, “their bye week came at the worst time” because now they’ve got to get all of that momentum back. It may never come back this season

#27 Atlanta Falcons (1-6)

r5d3 (23): Somehow the Falcons continue to manage to stay above the bottom dwellers
YoHo (29) Must be awkward for a QB who got benched to come back into the huddle as injury relief. huh?
Mallard (27) Leftwich goes just long enough to show that he's a better option then Harrington before getting hurt.
jjflr (29): The Falcons will suffer for a long time with McKay and Blank’s emotional decisions

#28 Buffalo Bills (2-4)

r5d3 (27): They actually won a game they were supposed to, that’s a good start
YoHo (25) Let's see if they can establish a nice little win streak when not facing the NFL's elite

Mallard (32): They shrugged off the gut punch from Dallas in exactly the way Arizona did not last year.

jjflr (26): They play tough at home

#29 San Francisco 49ers (2-4)

r5d3 (31tie): What was supposed to be the most improved division in the division is still the worst

YoHo (26) The offense is questioning the new coordinator. He has already lost his players

Mallard (29): People need to start throwing games to this team. New England really doesn't need a top 10 draft pick

jjflr (28): They’re getting worse and worse each week

#30 New York Jets (1-6)

r5d3 (26): Not much to say about them right now, they just are not a good team right now
YoHo (30) Laverneus Coles' performance was lost in the fact that the Jets lost to a pretty bad team... still just 3 points better than the Dolphins.
Mallard (28): Has this season turned into a Chad Pennington job audition? Thats the only impact I can see coming out of Jets games from here on out
jjflr (31): Sorry Jets fans, Pennington is still the starter

#31 Miami Dolphins (0-7)

r5d3 (29): Probably ranked at least 2 spots too high

YoHo (31) I bet Jason Taylor's 26-foot animatronic statue won't sit well with Strahan and Umenyora this week. If only the 'fins could use THAT version
Mallard (30): What did the Dolphins do to deserve this? It must have been pretty bad
jjflr (31): At least they’re leaving the country this week so we don’t have to have their crapiness in our country

#32 Saint Louis Rams (0-7)

r5d3 (31tie): This team is the worst in the NFL, but one game, Jackson, Holt and Bulger will go nuts, making you believe that they are not the worst in the NFL
YoHo (32) What can I say here? They're plain awful
Mallard (31): Does anyone in St. Louis miss Martz yet? Will Linehan make it through the season?
jjflr (32): First coach firing of the year?
